The Shape of Things at LAUFEN space Milano

At Fuorisalone 2022, LAUFEN space Milano hosted ‘The Shape of Things’, an exhibition that celebrated the evolution of ILBAGNOALESSI – a collection designed by Stefano Giovannoni, which first premiered in 2002.

For the world premiere of the evolution of ILBAGNOALESSI, LAUFEN enlisted Studio Lys to transform the space in Milan. Taking cues from the work of French utopian architect Claude Parent, who was renowned for his unique take on modernism, the exhibition featured a sloping stage at its center – which created a dialogue with spatiality, and helped transform the visitor's point of view and their relationship with both space and objects. Thanks to this diagonal plane and the concept of volume-in-volume, the relationship between visitors and objects continues to change: who is watching who?

Within the exhibition, the story of ILBAGNOALESSI develops at both a digital and physical level. At the entrance to the space, on the large LED wall, the viewer can immerse themselves in the virtual world created by the architecture studio Snøhetta and inspired by the sinuous and organic shapes of the collection. Five fantastic architectural spaces and landscapes offer settings that play with the sense of movement, time and proportions by relating natural elements and architecture to each other and offering the opportunity to reconsider the relationship between our body and space and how beauty, elegance and wonder are present in our daily life.

Beyond this first moment of dream and imagination, visitors enter the exhibition space where on the large stage with the inclined plane the ceramic pieces of the collection are displayed as if they were large sculptures. A mirrored wall multiplies the space by putting the ceramics in dialogue with each other with the new finished bathroom compositions, where the innovative lighting structure, that frames the furniture, stands out, creating luminous scenarios in the bathroom. The path continues on the mezzanine where it is possible to discover the richness of ILBAGNOALESSI through a display of new furnishings, colours and finishes.

We look forward to having you view the collection with us at LAUFEN. If you can’t make it in to one of our spaces, you can view the collection online at laufen.com.
